As we gather around the dining table this fall, now more than we ever have before, we appreciate how many different roles this central piece of furniture is playing in our lives.  The Farmhouse Style table is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture because it can be dressed up or down.  Here we list our Top 5 Farmhouse Dining Tables to fit any home this season.

TOP 5 FARMHOUSE DINING TABLES

The dining table not only serves as a place to share meals, but is also a work station, a make-shift school space, a folding table for laundry, you name it!  And a Farmhouse style table is a perfect fit!

WHAT IS FARMHOUSE STYLE?

The Modern Farmhouse style has been going strong for many years now because of its freshly updated and approachable look.  It’s contemporary and casual all at once. And noooooo, you don’t have to live on an actual farm to enjoy or appreciate this style, as we’ve seen it embraced from big cities to the coast to rural towns throughout the states.

The charm of the farmhouse look is that it feels modern but is firmly grounded with its roots in down to earth simplicity.  It’s no wonder this trend has taken off like it has, especially for those who love a laid back lifestyle.

HOW DO I DECORATE MY HOME FARMHOUSE STYLE?

1.  Think about simple, classic and clean lines – nothing too fancy.  No fuss furniture and accessories that are more humble than haughty.

2.  Muted earth tones and neutral color palette of black, white and all the grey in between.  To keep it cozy, bring in taupes, matte bronze, and coffee bean browns.  Feel free to add in light and dusty blues and greens if you’re looking for something a little extra.

3.  Natural elements and materials like wood, black iron, clear or milky glass, stone, linen, brick and ceramics.

4.  Layered textures like woven baskets, lamp shades, wicker or cane cabinetry, and wooden wall treatments.

5.  Matte black metal accents in light fixtures or window panes.

IS THE MODERN FARMHOUSE TREND OVER?

Yes and No.  As anything, this Farmhouse trend is splintering and evolving into whatever you’d like it to be.  It will grow with you and can easily blend with Contemporary Coastal, Industrial Farmhouse, Mid-Century Modern or Hygge.  That’s what great about it!  If you play your cards right, you can bring your main furniture pieces into the next style generation and simply update your accents throughout the home.

Designer Tip:

Easily update your style by replacing the small stuff in your home.  Think: light fixtures, rugs, pillows, throws, bedding and accessories that can be swapped out as the styles change.  For large and expensive items like cabinetry and furniture (think: sofa, bed or dining table), select neutral colors and styles that will stand the test of trendy times.

HOW DO YOU SET UP A FALL TABLE?

Now that you’ve picked one of our Top 5 Farmhouse Dining Tables, you’re ready to set the table.  Here are 3 easy tips:

  1.  Add a Centerpiece.  This can be as simple as a cutting board with a few white vases, or as layered as a table runner with a collection of decorative items running down the length of the table.

 2.  Make it Natural.  Find seasonal items in nature that are reflective of this moment, and of you and your family.  Take time on your daily walk to notice things like beautiful fallen leaves, pine cones or branches.  Fill a bowl or platter with seasonal fruits and vegetables.  Add pumpkins in various colors and textures, or make it clean with the same color in different sizes.  Don’t forget to mix the materials for that collected textured look.  (hint hint!  Bring it wood, metal, ceramics, glass, stone, linen and candles.)

3.
Place Settings.  Dinnerware and utensils can either be stacked casually with a help yourself attitude, or more formally laid out with the following:
  • Placemat or Charger
  • Dinner Plate and Salad Plate, topped with a Dinner Napkin
  • Water Glass
  • Wine Glass
  • Salad and Dinner Forks to the left of the plate, respectively.
  • Knife and Spoon to the right of the plate, respectively.

However you choose to express yourself in your home, know that it’s going to be perfectly you!
