Happiness, Health and Wellness are a part of our home experience and it’s more than just a trend – it’s a lifestyle.  Re-Imagining unused rooms into spaces that create joy and function is an ongoing part of our design process and creates the ultimate in self care at home.  Check out our favorite projects where we incorporated Wellness and Play in Luxury Interior Design into spaces like a Home Spa, Game Rooms, Home Gym, Home Theater, Home Bar and of course connecting the indoors to the outdoors.

PDC FALL MARKET 2022

This week Lori had the pleasure of sitting on a panel discussion at the Pacific Design Center Fall Market 2022.  It took place inside the gorgeous Sutherland Showroom where we discussed The State of Play in Luxury Design.

“Explore design for play, exercise and wellness through 11 Ravens and Sutherland Showrooms’ holistic panel. Panelists discuss why this has become an invaluable part of our home spaces – from enjoyment, health, psychological, and even home sale perspectives. Moderated by Laura Eckstein Jones, editor-in-chief of Angeleno, Interiors CA, and Modern Luxury. Panelists include: Green Interior Designer Lori Dennis, KAP Studios Architect Michael Katsibas, Carbon Shack Designer Greg Roth, GREEN realtor® Izumi Tanaka, and 11 Ravens Modern Pool Table Director Sea Zeda.”

We’d like to give a big thank you to Julie Du Brow and Shaun Thompson for organizing this incredibly inspiring discussion!  It felt so great to be back in the Design Center with so many friends and colleagues.

Courtney Porter of Decor News Now published a fantastic and informative follow up article inspired by this panel discussion, noting that “homes were often considered spaces that would isolate or protect people from the outdoors rather than connect them with it. Now consumers and design clients everywhere are doing their research and reading content and construction labels on their decor and furnishings the way they do food packaging.”  We highly recommend you head over and give it a read!

WELLNESS AT HOME

Awhile back, we talked about incoming WELLNESS TRENDS OF 2020, and now we’re seeing how wellness is no longer just a trend at home.  It’s a necessity.  Over the years, we’ve been asked to create unique spaces in the home that will enhance our client’s living experience.  Rooms that will instantly make them relax, unwind and be themselves.

Here are great inspiration images from many of the past projects that Sara Plaisted and I have worked on…

HOME SPA or HOME SAUNA

A luxury bathroom or in home spa or sauna is definitely our #1 request from clients.  Instantly melt any worries away with an open and calming layout, neutral and natural materials and a variety of dimmable lighting.

HOME BAR

Home Bars and Wine Cellars have been popular since the dawn of time!  And they’re not going anywhere.  But they are expanding to include juice, coffee and tea for the more health conscious.  We often are asked to create a lounge bar in a variety of unused rooms, like a Formal Living Room, Dining Room, Basement, Garage or Walk In Hallway Storage Closet.  Which is your favorite?

GAME ROOM

Over the past few years, we’ve been asked to help our clients create something fun in an unused room.  Often times it’s the formal living room or basement that tends to sit empty.  So why not do something fun?

HOME THEATRE or MEDIA ROOM

Creating spaces or zones within a home is helpful, especially when it comes to entertainment and the TV.  We are continuing to see more clients refuse to add a TV in areas like a Living Room where they prefer conversation and connection, or the Bedroom where they value sleep and intimacy.  However, when it comes time to watch a great movie, binge a series, catch a game or play video games on a big screen, having a dedicated room like a Home Theater or Media Room is incredibly luxurious.  Comfort is number one, along with any kind of drama that adds to the experience.

INDOOR OUTDOOR

If you know us, you know we really lean in to the indoor outdoor lifestyle at home.  Whether it’s simply bringing outdoor elements in, or completely opening up walls to literally connect to the outside, we love it.
